Long before I ever made a knife I picked up this old hunter from a flea market.

It was like this when I got it - the blade had been sharpened practically into non-existence and the stacked rings of the leather handle had completely dried and separated. The blade was still serviceable but far from optimal.

I couldn't help but think of the original owner who had loved this knife and hadn't abandoned it for a newer one when its good looks began to fade.

Later, while working as an Industrial Designer I became disillusioned with mass production and planned obsolescence. I began to wonder if I was just designing "pretty garbage" and became determined to put my skills and knowledge to better use.

Although the best materials, design and craftsmanship are essential, what really guarantees the longevity of a product is the love of its owner.
